Camera Addon

Has anyone ever put a camera button in the button in this pic? And how can it be pushed and show up on screen? Wanting to mount on headache rack so I can watch trailer or when I back up to a hay bale see to pick it up. 2022 f350 6.7L

That's where the button is for the high mount stop lamp camera goes, so yes you can add the button, wiring and camera.

Not really much help, but I ordered a 22 XLT without the UTT or the CHMSL camera. It only has the back up camera, however, recently I added Hill Descent to my truck and when I pulled the dash apart I noticed that there was a 3rd harness just folded behind the dash (I only have 2 large buttons on the top, so there isn't a spot for the camera button on mine). But, this connector appeared to be the same connection as what was plugged into the other top buttons, so I kind of wonder if this is the harness for the camera's... I didn't trace it back to see where it went or what it could possibly be for, but it does make me wonder...

Yes, I was able to do it with my 2018, but it was pretty involved and I'm sure someone with more technical skill than I have could have done it cheaper and easier. You are lucky you have a blank space there, I only had the two buttons so I had to purchase a combo button and the only one that fit with my current configuration was the diesel brake button. I use that to flip through the cameras (it's a gas truck). The camera button would do the same thing though.

For mine I added the CHMSL camera, front camera and an AUX backup camera for my travel trailer.

- When I go from reverse to drive, it will automatically flip from the backup camera to the front camera (I added a manual override switch for this so I can still utilize the OEM backup delay when desired)
- When I press and hold the power button my CHMSL camera displays. If I click the new dash button, it will cycle through the CHSML (Any Speed), Front Camera (Any Speed), OEM Backup Camera (Only if under 7mph) and Trailer Backup Camera (Any Speed). I can program it to cycle through more in the event I want to add additional cameras in the future.
- When I press and hold the power button it goes back to the normal sync screen.

I had to purchase a harness that would activate the camera feed onto the sync screen by pressing and holding the power button, but then created an Arduino based module that uses the new dash button as a momentary switch that will flip through a set of relays so I can switch cameras by each button press. I placed all of the electronics into a plastic project box I bought online and have it mounted behind the sync screen. The factory harness plugs into that box and the box plugs into the sync screen. I also added a set of 6 female barrel plugs for power and 6 female RCA video ports to the box (few extra incase I want to add more in the future like trailer side cameras) so everything can plug directly in and out of the box.

All in all it works great, but it wasn't the easiest project and I still would like to refine it more one day - I thought about designing my own PCB for it so I can reduce the box size but I never got around to it and it works fine so it's on the back burner.

Good info. I have that camera ordered on the new truck. Never had one before so I'll look for the switch when the truck arrives someday.

I have no clue what an arduino box is but those are the same camera and features I am looking to add. Im probably stuck ordering a prefab setup.
