1983 was the last year for the F100.
The main difference between the F100 and F150 is the payload, maximum for the F100 was a 4750# GVWR, with the F150 starting slightly above that(I can't find my 83 borchures right now...)
Evan
I am the owner of one of the last F100's for 1983... built in early April 1983. I haven't seen many '83's around... I suspect that Ford was promoting the F150, not the F100.
As for the difference, the payload capacity is about it... and the non-available 4X4 option. I don't use my F100 for hauling heavy loads except for some light loads of gardening supplies so the payload difference is not a problem. Nice to drive a rather rare beast and one of the last of the breed.
Wow! I dodn't know this about the truck! And for years it had been just the 'ol blue. Someone painted the topper exactly the same color baby blue as the truck, and it is the most regignisable vehicle in town! I have had numerous people stop and ask if im fixing her up for my fatherinlaw (Im am sparetime mechanic, and hes a well know EMT in town!) THe more I learn about it, the more I like it....its funny though. There are no heater vents....just one hole on the floor or two to defrost the window!!! too bad they quit making them like that. My father in laws new truck's Get this- "Electric remote sliding rear window" took a crap on him the other day, and its gonna cost him more then MY 'ol blue is even worth to fix! HA! Tahnks for the info GUys....SEAN!
i got a 83 F100 truck. she has a 300 4.9L Inline six, three speed standard on the column, 2.25 ratio nine inch rearend. it was my first truck to own. shes still running good. i overloaded it the other day and i bent my axle housing. i got to put anouther rearend in her yesterday
hi 84maztang:
mid '82 ford introduced that ever loveable ranger.
the f100 became a step child and was on the way out.
the real differences between the f100 and the f150 seem to be only three. the front coil springs load rating......unless u have factory air......then they're the same as the standard option f150 springs.
two is the brake hardware (passenger car stuff).
three is the bolt pattern of the wheels .... 5 on 4 1/2
imo it is one wonderful little truck.....no, it will never make a good logging truck and should not be used as such. but if u asked it to it would try till the bitter end.
and that chromed look * F100 * on the side stands out more every day!
110K and purrs like a cat.........usually at 16+mpg
Only the power brake trucks got the small brake hardware and bolt pattern, the manual brake F100's(I have three) run standard F150 brakes and the 5x5.5 bolt pattern
On the manual brake trucks, the only difference is the springs, the rest is exactly the same as an F150, you just couldn't get anything bigger than a 302, while a F150 could get a 351.

Me, I personally hate power brakes... My F250 has 'em, and, well, I wouldn't want to stop it's rated load without them.
Power steering, well, my 80 F100 doesn't have that either, 300/3 on the tree, and nothing else, not even a radio, and it still rolls on the factory 195/75R15's...
Mine Does not ahve power brakes, either does My 67 Oldsmobile! I like the feel of the non powered brakes...simplicity!
Thanks ....you guys are a goldmine of information! SEAN!
actually i've got an 83 f100 WITH factory power brakes, and its got the bigger brake calipers and it does have 5x5.5 pattern. and who says the f100 cant work? heck i work mine like a dog with no problems....
The 83's are an exception, some of the power brake trucks have the regular pattern and some the car bolt pattern, I'd assume that towards the end of the model year that an 83 F100 was an F150 in all but name.
