Great day to all! Just bought an original '55 F100. Where to find a wiring diagram. have two issues to address. right tailight and brake cancels when brake is on with lights. Also someone put in a key start switch eliminating the button and the dash light for speedometer comes on when key is turned on without the lights.
Thank you, Tom
Tom
You can go to painless they have wiring diagrams on their websight. If I were at home I could send you a scan of one from the manual. You need to check to see if your tail lightbulbs are double filament or single that may cause the cancellation. There is one wire coming from your light switch for the tail lights, depending on your switch you may need a jumper wire to make the parklights work without the headlights being on. The other wire will come from your brake light switch. If you have the original master cylinder mounted under the seat you have a a bolt in the end with two posts on it one wire is the hot wire (coming from ignition, fuse block, etc. the other one will go to the tail lights for the brake lights. For the dash lights they are probably hooked up to the ignition instead of the light switch.
You may also just have a short some where or a bad ground. I replaced my rear tail lights and it took me more than an hour to get them back to working correctly all because of a bad ground wire.
I have a 48 so I'm probably useless on underdash stuff, but the rear light situation is similar.
I'd bet on ground trouble as jaye said. When I'd hit the brake pedal, everything on the rear right would go out. I finally had to run a separate ground wire from my right taillight housing to the frame rail before my system worked.
Thank you so very much. I ordered the truck shop manual and it should be here tomorrow. The bulbs are dual filament. I will check the rest. I just got the truck last Thursday and it is completely original. Seems from what I can tell it was a garage truck. Absolutely no rust anywhere. And everything is there. I am really looking forward to working on it. Has the 6 cylinder with 3000 miles on the re-build. Again thanks, Tom
What a pleasant and great surprise. I am very grateful for this. My shop manual won't be here until the 11th. Bummer.
I can't thank you folks enough for all your help.

Tom,
Not a problem. You will find lots of helpful folks here at FTE. Some are a little ornery, but still helpful. We all like to see pictures, so get some in your gallery when you get a chance.
I just joined and registered so I haven't figured out how it all works yet. I have pics, just have to find out how the "gallery" or "my gallery" works. But I will.
Have a super day,
Tom
