Thank you everybody in Ford forum.
I'm slowly moving forward with a few steps backwards.
I'm moving on from rebuild of the '75' F250 with the 390.
The electrical hell went great. The turn signal switch was the best experience of this project. I used all the methods rolled into one for replacing the turn signal switch. I was maticulous and patience payed off.

I'm moving to exhaust for the next step in my project. I'm going exhaust before transmission. I guess I'm wondering if this is a good choice.
I need some direction of what is important vs what is pretty.
I'm looking for a bad *** truck in disguise.

Thanks again for such a great amount of knowledge

Glad you are making progress! Never put "pretty" before full functional reliability and safety. Pretty doesn't help you at all when you are broke down along the highway. Typically exhaust is one of the last things I worry about when refreshing/rebuilding/restoring a vehicle.

Dancing involves moving both directions, so does working on ol Ford trucks sometimes. The object is to get her around the dance floor, right? Lol

Start, stop, steer, all else is secondary IMO. And of course the 1st 3 must do it very reliably. And transmission function falls right in there after start (trans shifts and moves truck). Then instrumentation to monitor said idling/running temps, oil pressure and elec system function alternator/ battery recharge ect....

Then onto brake lights, t/s, headlights. Everything required to pass a standard safety insp to get it on the highway SAFELY. Brake pad amounts and a functioning emergency brake, wipers, horn.

Like stated above, does not matter what it sounds like, if it will not move under its own power. Also if you put a nice new welded exhaust system on and then have to remove it to drop a transmission, isn't that moving in the wrong direction?

I'd rather have a rusty, premiered, loud, old beat up farm truck that starts and the bump of a key and stops on a dime or 2 on them new tires. Than a fancy fresh painted one.

I m going against the grain here, but maybe exhaust first.

If the exhaust was super loud or annoying I’d definitely get that fixed before the trans. To me, I’m gonna spend awhile under the hood before I drive it anywhere, so super annoying exhaust yeah I’m not gonna wanna spend 5 minutes listening to that.

on the flip side I’ve had project vehicles before that get stored “ out back” and I have to move them in to my workspace to work and back out when I’m done, in that case transmission would probably go first, unless I had a sick little yard truck or side by side that made gettin the truck to my work area super easy.

Also theres price. If you’re not gonna be able to fix the trans for a long time and the exhaust needs $50 and a Saturday get after it.

Other thing, if the exhaust needs to come down to fix the trans, maybe do both at the same time?
