I am considering selling my truck, and I am having a helluva time figuring out what it's worth.
1978 f250 4x4 Supercab.
The good:
It had a 428 in it when I bought it.(Stock motor was a 400) Now it has a 390. Manual 4 sp. 6 inch lift, airbags. Tri-y headers, dual exhaust, flowmaster 30 mufflers 44 gallon gas tank
New brakes, bearings, and hubs. Steering gear box rebuilt. Gas tank pulled, drained, and all new hoses. Brand new tires and spare
The bad:
1000 miles on top end rebuild, and something busted. Probably a push rod.
The ugly:
Serious cancer in all the usual places. Right side of box is crunched. No tailgate
At this point I am weighing options. Sell, or spend $ to repair, and by that I mean a strong running motor, the bed replaced, and the rust properly taken care of. I don't need a show truck, just a truck that works. I'm going to talk to my mechanic (NOT who rebuilt the motor) to get an idea of cost to restore, etc, but I thought I'd hit you guys up as well.
With the bad motor and body condition it's pretty much a parts truck or rebuild project, so maybe a couple grand? If it's got the Dana 60 front axle you might be able to get a little more, but they aren't as valuable as they used to be. Sounds like it just needs the top end done to get it driving again? I'd get that fixed, then decide what to do, it's gonna be worth at least twice as much running and driving.
A Dana 60 front axel (by itself) can be sold for 1000 to 1200 easily and all day long in my midwest neck of the woods. I'd say since its a complete truck, with title, matching (probably) Dana 44 front, Dana 60 rear, NP205 xfer case, lowest at 1500 to 2500. Easier to start high and come down than go low to higher.
It if is in better condition than most Washington State trucks (rust wise?) you should, I hope anyway be able to get a little more? A motor swap in is not that bad.
Yes on the front/rear/trans. The rust is bad though.... cab corners and drip rails are shot. (Hence the Gorilla tape) And I just posted to the WA forum, thanks.
