I have a '76 F100 2WD. I basically all new front end components in except for the kingpins. Gear is new as well. I'm not sure how this happened, but the bend in the tie rod (driver side) seems to be causing the inner to rub on the pittman arm. I don't remember seeing this issue before. Seems as though I either need a straight tie rod outer, or a shorter pittman arm. I'd rather not have to pull the pittman arm again as that was a huge pain. Is there a straight outer tie rod end that will work?
Bumping this thread to see if anyone knows where I can get a non bent tie rod? The bend in the rod is what is causing the tie rod to rub the pittman arm. I've looked at Rock auto and thought I found one, but it arrived and still had the bend.
I just went and looked at the new tie rod I got for the '65 (I converted it to disk brakes from a '74, so it uses the same parts now). It has the same bend. From the picture, I am wondering if the pitman arm is longer than original? Did it come with the new steering gear? It might just be the angle, but it looks longer than what I have. Mine is only about 5 1/4" from center to center, about 7 1/8" overall length.

I did replace the steering gear, but I don't remember it coming with a new pittman arm. A shorter one would definitely fix the problem. I'll go measure it.
Edit: Mine is just about the same length as yours.

It looks to be rubbing on compression of suspension. If the tie rod end was straight, would it then hit the shock or radius arm hole edge which it passes through at full lock?
Hard to see in the pictures, but how are the radius arm to frame bushings? If really soft, might be letting the I-beam come back some under braking?
