Currently, when the fuel gage gets down to not quite a 1/4 of a tank, my truck begins to act like it is running out of fuel. Switch over to the other tank and all is well. And, both the front and rear tanks seem to get to about the same level with the same problem.
Is this problem associated with the dip tubes in the fuel tanks? If so, how difficult of a job is it to drop the tanks and replace?
Yes your pick up tubes in your tanks are most likely rotten. How hard they are to fix depends on how rusty things are. Some people remove the truck box instead of the tanks.
Hi, my dad and I just replaced the tank on his 1992 F150 cause it was leaking. The lines where sorta hard to get off need a fuel line removal tool, 2 different sizes. He has 2 tanks and we did the front tank. I'd say it wasn't the hardest thing to do, after you get the tank out its a breeze.
The fuel line on a diesel are just a good quality rubber line with hose clamps. Unlike the gassers they suck from the tank, not push. There is no special tool to remove them as they are not pressurized.
I did both my tanks without dropping the tanks. How ever I have a custom built flat bed with a dump so if i tip the body up I have all kinds of room to get to the tanks. Dropping The tanks is not that big of a deal tho if they are empty or near empty. Once the tank is dropped its really easy from there. Good luck.
