I need to swap out/replace the driver and passenger seats in my 2001 Excursion Limited. I have seen where people are taking seats from newer trucks ('08-'15?) and they bolt right in. Is this possible and what years should I be looking for for the easiest swap?
As far as I know a good amount of seats out the f250/350 family are a direct replacement as long as it's not a bench seat of course, extending up into 15'. Just be aware that certain years had the belt integrated into the seat itself and not the side of the cab. Depending on what your looking to achieve I purchased seat bottoms in a direct color match that I was able to replace with little knowledge in under an hour per seat.

Yeah I figured just replacing with same would be easiest but those newer super duty seats just look good. I didnt think about the seatbelt issue, thanks for mentioning.
I almost went the route of swapping seats when I needed to replace the bottoms on mine but ultimately I didn't want to lose my arm rests or pay to swap my center console to the ones that come out of the 250/350 that are higher and become the arm rest in place of the seat mounted ones. The newer ones look good and are way more comfortable, it's an investment into the truck and not a bad one either if you intend to hang onto the ex for a while
I would also like to install new (newer) front seats in my truck. After 21 years and 315000 miles they are just not feeling too good. My biggest issue with the newer truck seats are buying airbags I won't be able to use. They cost a fortune because of the replacement cost of airbags.
I put newer, 2005 I think, 250 seats in mine. If you find seats from a crew cab pickup, the seat belt was in the body. The extended '4 door' trucks had the belt in the seat.
The biggest pain in the **** for me was the seat heater. The EX uses a different system than the pickups. Theres a module for the EX, under the seat, but just relays for the pickups. I think theres a thread on here somewhere with the diagrams attached.
