Ultimate Truck Mod Question....

I have acquired a set of locomotive air horns and would like to mount them on the underside of my PSD. I have a '96 PSD Crew Cab short box. On the underside of the truck around where the rear seats are there is a transfer case and behind this case is a huge opening with plenty of room to mount my horns (openings facing toward the rear of the truck). I can get them well away from the drive shaft and they do not extend down any further than the skid plate for the transfer case.

I plan to mount an onboard 12v compressor and tank also but it actually has a smaller footprint than the horns. It will fit well along the frame. I will wire both the compressor and horn switch 100% standalone from the stock wiring harness with switches for both on the dash.

My question - does anyone see a problem with my proposed horn mounting location?

Thanks for any input...

I used to have a set of train horns lying around that I stripped off an old engine, before it was scrapped I tried them and they did work. I hooked them up to my shop air 175psi @ 20cfm and they did not make a sound. Either not enough air pressure, or not enough flow.
Try them out with that air compressor before going through the trouble mounting them. Other than that it sounds like a good location.

Take a look at Ricksontruck.com

They sell complete , or partial air horn setups , along with trains horns I believe.

Thanks for the feedback. Horns work so good they hurt ;-) - about 150db at 110psi. Any idea on the laws about having and using these types of horns in traffic? Common sense tells me that using them in a traffic situation could scare someone so bad that they run off the road so I WILL NOT use them in this manner regardless of how tempting....
