Transmission woes!!!!
I just bought a 79 F-150. It has a 302 with a C-4 tranny. The truck was parked for four months and now will not take drive,but has reverse strong.Man said was fine when parked. First Question what's wrong? I plan on pulling a camper of at least 25 foot with the truck. Is the C-4 strong enough to do this.If my tranny needs replaced should i put in a C-6. Would it be an easy change over if i chose this option?

If it feels like it's in neutral when you do that, it probably burnt up the forward clutch. If it feels like the brakes are locked up, then you burnt the reverse clutch. If you are mechannically talented, you can rebuild it for about $100.00 . That's about what a "clutch and seal kit" runs. Have to have a couple "special tools" though. There are usually some in the paper that say rebuilt for 150-200....That's what someone is doing out of their garage. Helps to know a little about autos too, you don't want to open it up and start dropping check-***** and springs eveywhere.
