which tank are you talking about, do you have dual tanks?
i have searched high and low for just a sending unit and have come up- empty.....if you guage isint working and you want to replace the unit go to http:advacedauto.com"there you will find some of the best prices ...........
The sender and pump work in my reserve tank but the gauge doesn't wanna work. On occasion it will go all the way past full and then drop all the way to empty. This is with a full tank. Could there be a loose connection somewhere? I mean its good that it pumps gas...but its even better if I know how much is in there. Heh.
I have an 87 f-150 and my guages do not work for either the front or back tank. It is having the same problem. Ford said they would charge $80 to find out what it is. I want to try to find it out on my own. So if anyone finds out how to fix and what to fix please post ideas.
on my '87 f-150 the rear tank would read clear past full no matter how much fuel was in it. turned out back sending unit had a bad ground. ran new ground wire works fine.
Ford dealership carries both front and rear tank fuel sending units here in Marietta, Ga. The front tank sending unit is about $180 and the rear is around $160. These come with all new seals and all.
Here's what I got off the 2carpros web site............
try unhooking the wire from the sending unit in the gas tank and with the key on, read the fuel gauge. It should read empty. Now, ground the sending unit wire and it should read full. If this is the case, your sending unit needs replacing. If not, it is the gas gauge
