Thankfully, our eX lived it's whole life in the northern Sacramento valley, no rust. But it looks like those dog legs and the panel that runs between them is where a lot of rust happens. I will need to keep an eye on them in the future now that it lives where it rains.. LOL
I'm guessing these are prone to rust on the Excursion? I don't live where rust is a thing really so the body on mine is currently rust free, but I do intent to travel to some rust prone areas of the country soon (for Christmas).
Is there a preferred treatment method to prevent these things from rusting off the truck?

Yes, they rust.
The whole rocker system is crap in my opinion. Able to collect and hold moisture, dirt, and road grime between the inner and outer rockers. They should've been better rust treated by the factory, or sealed, or given drain holes, or something.
