Pros / Cons Help

Any more experienced people have any insights on this vs this:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-ford-f-100-14/

https://www.lagunaclassiccars.com/ve...1972-ford-f100

Obv price is a big difference, but if you assume price is not issue #1, which is the better truck?

Thanks.

Based on the pictures the 75 looks to be fully restored and the 72 looks to be original or only partially restored. The 72 also says "Beautiful condition short bed, no rust and unmodified!" but it looks to have an aftermarket intake carb and air cleaner and headers, so the engine has been modified. Maybe they are just talking about the body? It also has a lot of surface rust under it (for an original that's fine) but the 75 looks brand new under it. In the comments they say that they expect the 75 to top $40,000 by the end of the auction but who knows.

I personally don't like the looks of 73 - 79 trucks that much. I think the 67 - 72's have a much classier look to them inside and out so I would lean more to the 72 because of that but the 75 is a very nice truck.

That's my 2 cents anyway...

eatyourfish, have you tried looking on Classic Autotraders? You might spy on that site for a few weeks to get a feel for fair pricing and value. That's how I found my truck. You can even set the search engine for 2 wheel drive, long bed/short bed, automatic, et. I also prefer to buy from individuals versus the big name companies. Just my 2 cents.

At what point does the surface rust underneath become a problem?

When it looks like this...

Sorry just had too...

From what I can see in the pictures you should be able to treat most of the surface rust with a rust converter and then top coat it with paint or coat it with POR15 and then paint. It didn't look too bad and if it's staying in a dry climate it could be fine for a number of years still untreated. If the sheet metal has deep rust pits (floor pans typically have this problem) then it would need to be treated or even cut out and replaced. Most times the carpet/pad holds moisture that leaked into the cab from weather or if the heater core leaked then causing the floor to rust from the inside out.

Both are nice trucks.
72 has rust, has been modified, and "good" condition.
Odd features too, it has power steering, but manual brakes. Older AC interior unit but a newer Sanden AC compressor under the hood (that is mounted 90deg the wrong direction because someone didn't buy the right hoses).
Rust underneath and the inside fenders under the hood. Someone tried to cover it up, but made it worse (driver side firewall to fender has poor overspray mess)
Windshield Washers don't work. Wrong size battery (that is backwards). Cool rear sway bar but that doesn't look like a Ford 9" rear end.
But hey, we can all sit around and pick at someone else's truck. Just wouldn't trust the dealer who already lied/ignorant on his marketing. Solid $25,000 truck...
