2013-2014 Turn Signal Switch (Multifunction Switch)
Hi, folks,
I have recently purchased a 2013 F-150, and really like the truck. The only thing that I am not a fan of is the turn signal switch, which is a design I believe is unique to the 2013/2014 models. Basically, where most turn signal switches physically latch up or down for right or left turns, these particular years had a switch that doesn't actually latch. To signal left or right (I'm not talking about the momentary lane-change feature, which is fine) you press fully down or fully up, as usual, but then the stalk returns to the center position and the turn signal stays on until you turn. While this isn't a huge issue to use, it makes things a little more complicated to cancel the signals (have to press the stalk again), and it just really seems to be a solution to a problem that didn't exist. Apparently, Ford had the same thought, because they apparently changed back to the normal style of switch for the 2015 models (or so I'm told). So, to my question: Being that the 2009-2012 models are very similar to the 2013/2014 models, is it possible to simply change the switch the the earlier model ('09-'12), or will this not work? From pictures that I have seen of both switches, they look very similar, including the multi-pin connectors, so I'm guessing that they are physically interchangeable. However, I'm concerned that the related control module might not like the different type of switch. Has anyone tried swapping these switches to see if it works? Again, it's not a huge issue to me, but I'd really prefer this to work the same as all my other vehicles.
11-14 might be interchangeable. 09-10 will not work as the wiring harness and electronics are completely different. You'll just have to get use to the dufus switch like the rest of us have. I bought my truck new and it took me at least 2 years to get use to it and I still find my self turning on the other signal at times while trying to cancel.
Trick is which ever way it's blinking, bump it to that side again and it'll instantly cancel.

Thanks for the additional info. I looked up a 2009 switch, and can definitely see the difference.
Yes, I'm getting good at cancelling the signals, but I still don't care for the way this works.

Bought my '14 new as well. And find myself still getting used to it as well.

Yes, I'll likely be the same, as I have a fleet of personal and fleet vehicles that all work the same way... except this one. Not the largest issue in the world, but it would be nice to change it to match.
I bought my '14 used about 18 months ago. When I discovered the difference my first reaction was to like it.
I wouldn't mind that being a universal option as I'd retrofit one of those switches on my other Fords, too.
Yeah, if it was my only vehicle, I'd likely be fine with it. However, I was driving a company F250 yesterday, and really appreciated the normal functioning of the switch!
11-14 share all of the same electronics so it's safe to say the switch will have the same momentary contact thru out those years. Do let us know if it's different. I'm sure others would like to swap out switches if so. I might as well when mine eventually goes bad if I don't trade the truck in before.
Everything changed in 11 when they came out with the new engines which is why 09-10 are different. I'm not entirely sure but I think they changed back for the F150 in 2015 with the new body style. I drive a 15 Transit 250 at work and it has the traditional style switch.

Ugh, you're right. I had read somewhere that the 2011/2012 models had a traditional control, whereas the 2013/2014 trucks has this odd one. However, I just searched the actual 2011 and 2012 owners manual, and they are the same as my truck. Oh, well, looks like I'm stuck with this switch, and will just have to get used to it!
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. It's a great help when dealing with a new-to-me vehicle.
Took me quite a while to get used to it and I sometimes still am a bit too impatient for it to cancel so i end up turning them on again a split second after they go off. I do like the lane change part tho 3 flashes is not enough IMHO. I used Forscan to change that to 6.

Thanks, Russ. I have Forscan, but really haven't used it yet. I'll have to find some time to experiment with it, and hopefully not mess things up while I'm in there!

Changed mine to 5 and sometimes I think it's too much but over all better than the stock 3 blink. Can't remember the last time I fired up Forscan.

Didn't know that feature existed. Guess I'd better go read the owner's manual!
