Where can I find a VIN Decoder For a F500 Chassis Cab or if someone knows-What engine would be in this. It is a FE block guessing 390 but there are no marking on the engine- the vin starts with F50DCP-the last is the sequence of numbers. Any ideas??? Thanks
It is a heavy duty version of the FE engine (352, 360, 390, 410, 427, 428). They share several common parts, but not all. The crankshaft is different I know, and I think there were other small differences.
Sure. It's an FT series engine, which stands for Ford Truck. It's extremely similar to the FE, and shares many parts, but there are important differences. It's got a 3.875" bore, it uses a forged crankshaft with a 3.5" stroke (like a 360). It has heads with smaller ports and valves to promote good air velocity for good low end torque. The distributor hole is larger, but a bushing is available to take it down to FE specs. The block has extra main bearing webs for added strength, and is made of a high-grade-alloy with manganese, silicon, and other alloys added to improve durability. The block is otherwise identical to an FE. The heads and intake have passages for coolant, so they cannot be swapped.
These are low rpm torque engines, virtually indestructable. However, with an appropriate cam and carb it may be possible to wake it up. In addition, it should get better mileage than any FE.
Sounds like something that would be well worth checking into. The engine is free so I don't think I can go wrong. Can you bore it out and use a 390 crank or isn't that possible. Just wondering. Thanks. Keep the info coming.
