I owned a 73 highboy a few years back. This is a 78....I dont think that is a divorced transfer case. I just can't remember what 73 looked like. Thoughts? Bought this 78 to supplement my feed truck. Runs like a top. When did the last high boys come out?? TIA

Last year HB made mid 77
X2 it's NOT a Highboy because:
Xfer case is attached to the transmission
Only 2 leafs on the front leaf packs (and a small add a leaf and a small tab block)
High pinion front axle
Sway bars on front and rear axle.
Highboys are overrated. 78-79s are better in every way.
Maybe not every way. The FE is a far superior engine family than the 335s and the 73-77 grilles are infinitely better looking than the guppy-mouth 78-79 regardless of headlight shape.
I do agree that there was no reason whatsoever for the rest of the "highboy" traits. All they do is make it harder to swap from one year (or 2wd to 4wd) to the next although the divorced boxes do make clutch jobs easier.
Is the FE really better? I do like it better personally, but it is a 50s technology.
Figured Ford would have learned something in 20 years.
Anyway the 78-79 have the following:
*disc brakes, open knuckle axles
*electronic ignition
*more galvanized steel
*Fuel tank under bed
*concealed fuel doors
*plastic inner fenders
*real power steering
*wider frame-better towing stability
*hood alignment bracket
*one less drive shaft
*better bed availability, takes commonly available bed and floor
Highboys are cooler and possibly easier to repair.
