Ok, so I have a 1999 f350 with a v10 and automatic trans. The problem has progressively gotten worse over the past few months. It started with the fuse occasionally popping but now I cant even get out of the driveway. I can put in a new fuse and lights work fine, turn on the key and they work fine, start the engine and it instantly pops the fuse. This happens even with the tail lights disconnected. I have popped the flasher fuse a couple times also. I have noticed that in gear, foot on brake and turn signal on the idle drops and rises in conjunction with the flasher. I had the abs light off and on that started about the same time and even got a p0500 code. I replaced the vss at the rear dif and havent seen the abs light since. Any suggestions on the brake light fuse would be greatly appreciated.
So i unplugged it and did not pop the fuse and the brake lights worked. I plugged it back in and tested it again and still did not pop the fuse and lights still worked. So maybe just a faulty connection since it seems to fit kinda loose and does not lock in. I am gonna put some electric grease on it and maybe try to get a zip tie around it to hold the plug in tight. Keeping fingers crossed that this is the fix. Thanks so much for the help.
p.s. Just fyi, It does have the recall fix harness.
Thats disappointing to hear. Odd that I could not get it to pop. Normally if I start it and touch the brake it pops instantly. Gonna drive it a little and see what happens. I will let you know in a few.
Ok so I drove around the neighborhood for a few min, lots of stops lots of riding my brake and still good. Gonna keep my fingers crossed since its been weeks since the last time i could make it out of the driveway with out popping the fuse. Thanks again and if anything changes i will be back. haha
After doing some running around after about an hour the fuse blew again and now its back to blowing as soon as the brake pedal is touched. But it will only blow with the engine running.
What I really dont understand about this issue is that it will only blow the fuse with the engine running. I can hold the brake pedal on for ever with the key off, the key on and nothing happens But as soon as I start it and touch that brake pedal it blows the fuse.
