No,

Steeda checked it a 3rd time. Took everything apart and put it all back together again. They are very patient and professional. I spoke with the mechanic myself afterwards. These are top grade mechanics here, not some small outfit. I believe the installation of the gears to be correct.

I'm having that 5" shaft installed right now. It should be done within an hour or so. If this fixes it, it wil solve the whole dispute and answer alot of questions.

If it doesn't solve the problem, well then I just don't freakin' know.

Does your truck have Over drive i didnt note you saying if it did.. and if so you have to remember that once you take over drive, the drive shaft is spinning faster than the engine about 25 percent faster.

Yes I have an overdrive at a .70:1 final drive ration, wich is not much, less than the manual trans, with the 4.10 gears, my shaft is screaming.

this is what they are attempting to fix right now. I just called them and they said that everything was going fine and it should be done soon.

Thanks for the explanation re: shaft length. It still baffles me why the aftermarket would put you through the wringer by offering a shaft that is unsuitable in service. Best of luck.

Hey guys!!!

Just got done doing the high speed trial run. Mind you it's raining out and very very windy so I could only get high speed in spurts, but I was able to reach (with traffic) just under 100mph smooth as a babies buttocks!!! smoooooooth.

wow, worth every penny. I'm glad it worked out. I was worried.

But it's awsome...so, problem fixed...(finally)

Well your trial and effort has educated me and probably a few others on the long driveshafts and vibration issues that could pop up after ring and pinion swaps. Now about those 1/4 mile times you were talking about when can I see those? Now that you have it fixed might as well try and break it right? haha Glad it worked out for you, good luck in the future

Yes I am Very Very Very Very happy guy today.

I burried my speedo at ove 100mph today on the way to work with no vibration whatsoever. I'm happy.

I need to scan those new times in. However, I may go to the track again tomorrow. With the lack of vibration now, I think I can get my top speed up because the vibrition was kicking in the last 150 feet or so at the track last week.

I figure that the vibration slowed my top speed down.

Now that i'm running smooth, I think I can get that up some more.

So maybe I'll wait before I scan a new slip in.

However, you can trust that I'm being honest on the 16.73 run last Friday. It's a true figure. And it's only going to go down from there.

I need to take some pictures of my drive shaft as it is so thick it's almost funny. It looks like it belongs on a tractor trailor.

I'll never snap that thing.

Have you done anything internally to that 4.2 Tom? I hope the 2003 engine is a big improvement over the earlier model. Glad to see you have the vibration thing figured out. That can tear up a tranny and rear end quick.

Nothing internal yet. I have other external items i need to cover first. Like the shift kit and torque converter for two. These need to be taken care of before I can attempt to power up my car any more.

I'm losing rear wheel horsepower on the stock torque converter and i'm losing shifting speed without the shift kit.

anything else I do to add more power to my motor at this time would just be a waste I think.

Shift kit is 100.00 ( I can install myselft)
Torque converter is 759.00 (+++ to install)

Then I'll start digging around inside.

Actually the higher stall will get you less RWHP on the dyno but should yeild better at the track.

Really?? LESS h/p on the dyno? Why? They usually measure peak horsepower at max rpm anyway, not down in that rpm range. Please explain.

I happened to look in my gallery and you had asked a question. I found that in my tranny pan and didn't have a clue what it was. Apparantly ford put those on the end of the filler tube during assembly and if you find one in a pan it is a good indication that the tranny has never been touched well good I guess depending on the situation. Higher stall converters have a greater slip percentage and eat up a little power. I'll give you an example of when a higher stall is bad. Before I rebuilt my 360 into a 390 I ran it down the strip. I got an 18.4 E.T. I installed my new 3200 converter (The 360 would only get it up to 2400) and my time went down to 18.9. Evidentally the worn out 360 was out of its torque range at that rpm and the amount of power the new converter ate up just hurt the E.T. I'm sure a stock conveter would hurt my E.T. with the 390 immensley as it makes peak torque at about 3,500rpm. Even at redline the higer stall is slipping a tad bit more than the stock stall.
