Question 66 ranchero u-joints help!

I have a 66 ranchero, with a 200 il6, C4 transmission, 8 inch rear end. After doing much work on this vehicle and replacing the front seal on the transmission I could not put the driveshaft back in with the old u-joints,I pulled them out of the driveshaft and now cannot locate replacements, need help!

IMHO, they should be readily available....check with a local driveline shop!

I would agree they should be readily available, however they are proven not to be. I have discovered we don’t have many driveline shops left in the Twin Cities, apparently only one I will have to try that Monday. My dilemma is finding the right cup size with inner-city clips, the front joint I’ve managed to come up with one that should work the rear giant however has two different cup sizes 1 inch on the Drive shaft and inch and a quarter on the axle. The front joint appears to be a 507 but cannot find anything remotely close for the rear

Well, when I did a goggle for driveline shops I found several list in the Saint Paul area..... however, as well al know, just because you advertise as one doesn't mean you are one. HD Truck repair shops will definitely know of a good one....and you have plently of those!

When I did a quick search on Rockauto....it shows a "plethora" of ones including the variation you are speaking of IIRR including 1.062" Bearing Cap! Yeah!!!!

1966 FORD RANCHERO 3.3L 200cid L6 Universal Joint | RockAuto

DANA 51203X {Click Info Button for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers} Spicer; Greasable Info
Rear Driveshaft at Transmission; 1.062" Bearing Cap; with 3.625" Outside Snap Ring; with Yoke O.D. 3.875 IN

I would give one recommendation....avoid SKF like the plague!!!!!!! Dana, Spicer are the best mfg's IMHO...... looks like DANA has what you hopefully need.

This is also an excellent source for part numbers and gives the exact specs as well...

North America Homepage (danaaftermarket.com)

Just plug in your year/make/model, click on driveshaft and then start reading all the specs on each of their u-joints.........................

If all else fails, try these guys...........

Bob’s Driveline Service 14215 Palmdale Road Victorville, CA 619-245-1136

Inland Empire Driveline Service 1540 Commerce St., Ste A Corona, CA 92880 951.279.8026 or 4035 East Guasti Rd., Ste 301 Ontario, CA 91761 909.390.3030

Raytech 11110 Adwood Dr. Cincinnati, OH 513-742-2111

Another option is "Classic Mustang shops..... they should have these sitting on the shelf as well....
Larry's Thunderbird & Mustang Parts 511 S. Raymond Ave Fullerton, CA 92831 714-871-6432 714-871-1883

Another option that has worked well for me is to contact Dana-Spicer direct to their sales or tech support1) asking to verify the correct part number, then if they can check to see which one of their retailers/distributors would have that item. If they can't, then google the part number, you'll find who has it.

What might help as well, is this..... The Dana-Spicer parts identifyier.....

North America Homepage (danaaftermarket.com)

Click on Automotive, then universal joints and then you can select by cap size for a search. If all esle fails (which I doubt you won't be successful with something out of this), then consider changing out the yoke allowing the use of a larger available u-joint.....

Hope this helps...............

After much research and a few tips from others, I believe I’ve come up with something. My driveshaft is a two and three-quarter inch, the front joint has 1 inch caps with inside clips, the rear one I believe was the wrong joint, after examining the rear axle and you’re closer to 1 1/4 inch caps did not seat fully in the yoke. I believe the previous owner installed the wrong joint, The inch and a quarter caps did not sit all the way down in the yoke it was close enough that it seem to work for him. After much research I have come up with two part numbers, C5DZ 4635-b for the front and c5dz 4635-a For the rear. I will be picking them up tomorrow and checking the fit. And most of those shops you reference for Saint Paul no longer exist or don’t actually do the work themselves, but thank you for your effort I will let you know if this works for me

Just thought I’d give an update, the joint I ordered is the right one. The issue, dilemma I had is the book listed as having 1-1/8” caps when in reality it has 1–1/4” caps,Which is what I needed. Thanks for all the help

U-Joint cups are 1260 size. 1966 Ranchero & Station Wagon 170/200/289 use the same U-Joints as 1965/66 Mustang 200/289.

The front U-Joint (C5DZ-4635-B) is different than the rear U-Joint (C5DZ-4635-A)

Thank you numbers dummy, I was hoping you were still out there. I have for many years viewed various Ford forms, never had an original question, I’ve always found a thread and start **** and tell you spoke up. And then I had my answer thank you for responding I managed to sort out the driveshaft issue and you joints. I am now onto a new adventure with the 66 ranchero, I am seeking a fuel sending unit. Any help you could give me would be much appreciated. In my opinion you are the authority and the final word on Ford parts waiting impatiently for your reply🤨

D0OZ-9275-K .. Fuel Tank Sending Unit / Obsolete

1966 Falcon Ranchero // 1966/67 Falcon Station Wagons // 1968/70 Falcon Station Wagons without Evaporative Emission, without low fuel level warning system.

1967 Fairlane Ranchero // 1968/69 Fairlane/Torino Ranchero without low fuel level warning system // 1970/71 Fairlane/Torino Ranchero except with 429 engine.

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe HAS shows 1 = 913-220-5746. But this source rarely updates their inventory, so may not have it.

No one else has any, I didn't look on ebay. The part numbers prefix can also be typed: D00Z (zeros) & DOOZ
----------------------------------------------------
The float is available by itself .The float is made of two pieces of brass soldered together. Solder breaks down, gas seeps in, float settles to the bottom of the tank.

COAZ-9202-B .. Fuel Sending Unit Float - Available from Ford .. It's also reproduced in plastic by Carpenter .. Ford dealers have dozens in stock

1957/70 ALL FoMoCo vehicles.

Just thought I’d give an update, I replaced the fuel sender and my gauge is working fine now. Got the horns working now and relearned a past lesson from my 65, couldn’t figure out why I could not get the horns working until I realized the Column was sitting too far forward in relation to the shaft a simple adjustment with the mounting bolts and my horns are working again. However, I am now onto one would appear to be the next adventure with the Ranchero and that would be the transmission. Now that I’ve had that vehicle on the road and with a new exhaust I can actually hear how noisy the transmission is and how poorly it shifts i’ve decided to rebuild my C4. I’ve rebuilt many manuals but never an automatic, any advice on which kit to use would be appreciated. From the videos on YouTube this doesn’t look any more difficult than anything else I’ve ever done and doesn’t seem to require any tools I don’t already have. If anyone could point me in the right direction for parts and perhaps a Decent book or video that could supplement my 65 shop manual which seems to cover everything I need it’s just not explained very well.Decent book or video that could supplement my 65 shop manual which seems to cover everything I need it’s just not explained very well.

If I’m going to look for a hard to find parts at Napa, I go to the warehouse because all the satellite stores have young kids barely use the computer but alone know what I’m talking about. I go to the warehouse and I find the old guys. But I spentSometime online last night and I have ordered basically everything except for a bushing kit I will wait till I have a transmission disassemble to see if I need a full kit or not otherwise I have ordered a Master rebuild kit, rear servo, rear band, front pump gears, Thrust washer kit, sprag rollers with springs, A transgo shift kit and A set of new cooler lines. And I believe I have found a place in Iowa for a tour converter I will contact them tomorrow
