I’m just not a fan of stickers over paint. Probably comes from my experiences with poor quality stickers back in the day, especially pin stripe stickers that didn’t play well with waxing, and if left on too long would leave a subtle shadow of less faded paint. And that one crappy post minor collision paint job where they actually painted over a stripe, then stuck new stripe over that!!😡
Yes, today’s decals are much much better quality plastic/vinyl than decades ago, but still not paint quality. And still has a wax catching edge. Now if it were painted on and under the common clear coat, that might be different.
Kinda like boat boot stripes- if in the gel coat, fine. But stuck on- no thanks.
I don't like to draw attention to my vehicles but I like the concept of vinyl decals and wraps. They are basically temporary and can be removed when you get tired of them with no harm done to the paint.
I think Ford used to do a great job with their stickers. The Bronco in this pic belongs to EarlyCobra but I used to have an ‘81 just like it. Kinda wish they’d bring something like this back.
Agreed. But imagine it in paint! What a factory production headache though.
Yea my bad experiences were with a Datsun truck decals, Nissan car stripes, Jeep Cherokee big stripes, and Grand Cherokee and Tahoe with lame pinstripes.
Don't use a heat gun, not needed. Just a hair dryer to warm up the edge... Leave the truck in the sun, use hair dryer for a few seconds and pick an edge. Should just pull off pretty easy.
I did the hair dryer on one side and did above on the other side and I didn't even really need the hair dryer,. I think it was like 80 outside
Get a Sharpie and scribble " = 16 " after the "4 x 4" sticker to solve that tough math problem. Consider it a public service for the less fortunate GM guys who read it.
Easily removed...warm it up with a hair dryer or heat gun and it'll peel right off.
Exactly. I didn't care for the factory FX4 decal so I removed it and replaced with a green one. A little Goo Gone on a rag will remove the residue outline.
Be careful applying heat from a heat gun...too much will also soften the clear coat and you could possibly pull that off along with the sticker (ask me how I know). I don't even chance it with a hair dryer, I just use 3M Adhesive Remover. Takes longer, but no chance of damage.
I have a 4X4 Lariat without the FX4 off road package on order. Will it come with the (silly) sticker?
I don't want it on there, and the dealer doesn't seem to think that it can be deleted, but says they can pull it off if it's on there.
How hard is it to remove those stickers? Seems deleting would be the smart way to go, but what do I know.
It peels right off. I did mine as soon as I got home.
The day we bought our truck, we stopped on the way home from the dealer to let my wife go into a store. While I was waiting, I peeled the stickers off. It was about 75 degrees that day. No additional heat required.
Yes have had it on for over 1 year with no fading and peeling. My truck sits out in the 100 degree heat and sun every day. They have been super durable.
Moving to Idaho in 30 days and will be 100% garaged. It will be my daily driver so we will see how they do this winter.
