97 Expedition 5.4L

Hi, I have an issue with my 97 expedition.... one of my heater core quick connectors needed to be replaced... snapped right off inside the heater hose.. was able to get the connector off the heater core and what broke off inside the hose cleaned out.. got the replacement connector... I just need some info on how to get the nipple of the new connector back inside the hose.. there is a metal ring clamped from the factory around the end of the hose that seems to be stopping me from getting the nipple all the way in.... should I cut the metal clamp off and use a hose clamp or do I need a new hose as well???

I don't know if this diagram sheet will help you or not, but it explains the assembly and removal of those quick connects. Ford and Chrysler use them.
