2000 F250 - sloppy shifter after plastic bushing replacement
Folks, this has been driving me nuts for a bit.
My column shifter is.. .extremely vague. I replaced the plastic bushings, tightened the screws per Makuloko's YT channel (and while the old bushings were a bit worn, the screws were fine).
Is there anything else to replace? The bushings helped but selecting the proper gear is still an exercise in patience.

Replace the entire shift tube assembly. Here are part numbers (from tasca a year ago, the dorman assembly is also decent)
Aha, I see - I think the spring 6L5Z-7379-A and the rear metal piece with the positions - 3C3Z-7A216-BA - would possibly also help in my case so I bought those as well.
Now to figure out if all this can come out of there and go back in from the top - I think so?
Edit: @BWST I just saw your post, I think that plus a worn spring + back 'position' bracket (which is the piece that has the detents and could very easily be rounded off) are also a part of my problem as well as the egged out pin hole - the spring is certainly less strong than it should be. I will order, install and report back while my truck is lacking half the front suspension anyways.
It can be done from top, with plastic covers off, and helps to pull cluster, or you can remove covers and drop the steering column down some to allow more room to access
Got it thank you - I need to pull the cluster out anyways because the body shop who sprayed the door got overspray on the interior. Including the cluster. No, please don't get me started.
