Has anybody had problems with the valve body in their 10 speeds. Truck is a 2018 5.0. I will start by saying the transmission has always had odd quirks but nothing that bothered me considering how much electronics control these transmissions. Now to get to the point, a few weeks ago the transmission started shifting very hard from 1st to 3rd when cold to the point it would slip the tires. After about a week it started having longer than usual lag between every gear change when cold or warm. It would get so bad that if pulling out on a hill it would almost lose all its speed when shifting. The dealership has it now and said that the magnet in the trans pan was pretty clean and that there is a tsb for the valve body. Chime in if you’ve had these issues or had the tsb done for a new valve body. Thanks

Reason: Update

I have not had these bad of issues, nor the tsb done, but some others have. I bet they reset it, and send you on your way. I also would not be surprised if the battery wasn't going bad causing an issue, these trucks are very tempermental with the terrible battery life we are seeing. I personally would simply ask them to check it while they had it, no harm. I'm not sure I would pay to have a Ford oem battery installed either, I'd shop elsewhere.
Thanks for the response. They did reset/update it but they said it did not fix the problem unfortunately. I have heard the batteries are not lasting very long in these trucks as well. We bought it last fall used and it had a new battery at that time so I’m hoping that’s not it.
Are you primarily driving short trips? If so the adaptive learning will program to the slow speed you drive. On the occasion that you get on the highway, the transmission will act strange. Also, those short trips never allow for the battery to fully charge.
If you are primarily driving short trips, I would consider disabling the battery maintenance system.

It would depend on what you consider short. It’s my wife’s truck and she drives about 27 miles to work each way. The drive is a mix of city and highway. One thing to note is that we’ve owned the truck for about a year and it never acted this way. At times on a hill it will lose most of its speed until it completes a shift and then drop gears because it is going to slow.
Yes they did the tsb and reprogrammed it. They said that’s all they usually need to do but after they reprogrammed it they said it still had a very long lag between each shift and that there is a tsb to replace the valve body but the parts won’t be here until later next week.
We also had the oil consumption issue when we first got it but the pcm update and new PCV seems to have cleared that problem up. Or… the way my wife drives it the rings are seated really well. 😂
Sounds like your wife and my wife drive the same way. She has a 2020 Navigator with the 3.5 HO Raptor engine. That thing hauls ***. I’m surprised she hasn’t been stopped yet. No issues with the 10 speed in it. I do find it to shift odd though, but that’s just a characteristic of it.
I agree. It always the shifting was never my favorite part of that truck. The driving must be a lady thing. She ask one day why it won’t go past 106mph. 😬
When hers was new she asked, How fast does it go? I said let’s find out. It was a long, straight stretch of I-10 between Houston and San Antonio. 113, computer limited. Got there damn quick too! Shoulda stopped by Hennessy, since we where in the neighborhood, and had a few “adjustments” made On second thought, it’s got more power the she needs.
Under full throttle is where that transmission really shines. Also while towing. It tows a 22 ft boat great. It’s just the everyday light throttle driving where it feels kinda weird. They all do. Ford tries too hard to make it smooth.
Finally have an update. While reassembling the transmission and installing the new valve body the dealer found a notable sized piece of material in the transmission so they will be replacing it with a reman unit but the new trans is not scheduled to arrive until mid November.
While it does suck to be without it that long they did give us a loaner f150 to drive and have treated us good through the entire process.
The tech I spoke with also said it is very uncommon to see an entire trans need replaced so hopefully that gives everyone some piece of mind. Ours was a very early build 2018 so hopefully the new one will have some bugs worked out b

Despite having to wait until next month, it’s nice to hear that your dealer is stepping up and taking care of you as well as giving you a loaner F150.
Replacing it instead of just repairing it is the best way to go plus, if there have been any, the new transmission should have all the current updates.
