October 2021 Chat Thread

Fall is here!
I cranked up the 79 last weekend and drove it around the property, I still need a radiator and a brake booster. Trying to finish up my Mini Cooper project before the winter returns. With the price of gas steadily rising I might need a easy on gas car to commute in.

I understand about the fuel prices. I bought a Honda Civic just to drive to work, 30 miles one way. Of course , the belts started squeaking right after my first trip to work. Time to break out the 10 mm wrench.

Howdy, guys its been a while. Glad the Covid hasn't kept anyone down too bad. Been rolling around in Ole Blue chasing down a rough idle stall issue. Thought I fixed it with a fuel pump but its still there. What are you guys working on or fiddling with. Thinking about going EFI when Holley has their annual sale. Thoughts

The Holly EFI is nice, thought about doing that if and when I get serious into restoring the 79.

Just did a ton of work to the Mini Cooper. New water pump, radiator and hoses, new AC compressor and condenser. Rebuilt the front end, new door speakers, New airbag module, new drivers seat back and foam. New headliner, a ton of cleaning because it was real dirty on the inside. Replaced all the engine seals that were leaking oil. I have a few more things I want to do but I am very satisfied with the way it has turned out so far. A lot of work for a play / tow behind the motorhome car.

Did you buy a donor car to get your parts? Reason for going efi is this was the third carb for the truck. First one was a double pumper wrong for street application, second had a defect in it. Third now has idle and stall issues and runs lean on load. I even got an afr gauge for tuning purposes but its still too temperamental. So between all the parts and labor both personally and professionally I could have almost paid for efi 1 1/2 times.

No donor car. Since it is a first gen mini the parts are very reasonable. Going to put new wheel bearings in it this weekend and that should wrap the mini up till after winter. Topped off the 79 with coolant and let it run this weekend.
