360 vs 390

360 vs 390
Which engine, the 360 or the 390, generally makes the better engine for a '76, 4 X 4, F250, C6, for a general daily driver? Does the 390 burn much more fuel than the 360 if they are both 2V carbed?

well I have a 390 in my 76 F-150 that I am currently restoring.. Before I took the truck off the road I loved it.. It had a Holley 4 bbl on it . which came from the fact. that way.. but It had plenty of hp and torque on hand.. I loved it.. Fuel Milage.. if you stay out the 4 bbls it did ok.. no worse than my Big six.. I would goo w/ the 390 and get a 4 bbl... good luck

I got 12MPG on a trip to texas with my 390. Take a look at the specs on my webpage. I would think a mild 390 in a 4X4 3/4 ton would be optimal. The 360 should pull it just fine but I doubt the gas mileage will be much better. It also depends on the gears. If you have 4.56 gears the 360 will get better mileage. If you have 3.25 (Doubt you do) the 390 will probably get better mileage.
