I’ll try and keep it simple, looking at buying a 2011- 2016 era super duty with a 6.2. from what I understand these trucks seem to hold up really well. What do I need to know about the 6.2 during these years? Any specific model years more desirable than others? For instance, I know with a 6.7psd the 2015+ Had quite a few changes. I’ve heard some mention 2013+ 6.2 had some updates worth looking at but I haven’t found much. I don’t know, what I don’t know so any help is appreciated.
also, in a perfect world I’d get one with 4.30 gears. Any chance I’ll be able to find a crew cab SRW with 4.30 or is that like finding hens teeth?
Most are 3.73 gear. Work just fine with 33inch tires in my experience.
2011 had some shift surge issues (I was able to fix mine for the most part). 2013+ had bigger brakes and different tailgate.
Besides that its regular used car buying advice. Quite frankly they share the rest of the drivetrain and truck with the same parts the much more powerful diesel came with. They are pretty solid trucks, not much else out there will compete with them on that aspect.

Shift surge issues? How did you fix them? I have a 2011 and it's definitely a pain in the butt.

thanks!
Shouldn't be too hard, my '11 CCLB SRW is 4.30s. Look for the FX4 package. Here at elevation in CO the 4.30s are necessary IMO.
So, just to follow back up, We are really just now starting to search out trucks. I've found a few, and all have been E3 axle codes (Electronic locked 3.73). I need to actually get behind the wheel and do some test driving, but at some point i do realize i am buying an used truck, there will be things i have to live with. Couple follow up questions,
Did the shifting issues only plague the 2011 trucks?
How big of updates did the 2013's and newer get, i hear its just larger brakes, but is that truly all it is?
I'll continue my searching for the right truck, i'm in no hurry to buy, but would like to find something before December.

AFAIK it was only '11, yes. The early, early ones needed a flash and solenoids, the just-early ones needed a flash. My '11 built in 3/11 (per ETIS) needed a flash only. Unfortunately the flash made it better, but did not totally eliminate the harsh 2-3 upshift. I never had shift flares as reported by many.
Thing is, I wouldn't be afraid of all '11's. Sometime by mid-year I think everything was addressed. And even most "problematic" ones weren't that problematic.

Before the brake upgrade in 2013, frozen calipers were very common.
Not so much after.

Mildly aggressive acceleration up to around 45mph, lift off, then light acceleration = 6th, 3rd, 14, 5th, 10th, 2nd 1st, niner, then back into 4th. Definitely wake you up.
Just purchased a 2016 F-250 CC 4x4 with 3:73 gears, 6.2L and 110,000 miles in April. Put around 7,000 miles on it already. The truck runs great. Get a consistent 8.3 mpg around town loaded or unloaded. Can get around 13 mph unloaded on the highway. I also have read that the 6.2 with this transmission is a great combo. Truck pulls fine stock however the transmission shift strategy and the “dead” pedal mine had at the beginning of throttle made me go ahead and install 5 star tuning. I have been very happy with the tunes so far, wish the pedal throttle at very first was a little better but overall a great investment. I am currently dealing with some front end shaking that I am trying to track down but other then that she has been great. I did go ahead and change all 16 plugs, wires, and COP boots. I would look for a well maintained one, they are out there. I found one with all maintenance records back to 30,000 miles.
I have one with 130K miles thus far. Its stock FX4 super crew regular bed. I haven't had any issues to date, have kept the maintenance up to date, did plugs, etc at 100K.
I pull a 26 foot travel trailer, easy stuff. I cruise at 55-60 pulling and get 10mpg with regular, if I go to premium I can get 12 mpg. Shifting is fine, a occasional "looking" when I soft pedal it, sorta like a race horse wanting to do what it does best, PULL A LOAD, not driving granny in the slow lane to Pasadena
Rides great, I get lots of compliments on my truck. Rust can be a issue on the bottom panels from water leaking through windows, a small hole drilled early on allow it to drain, but be careful, lots of wires run through there....
