Picked up these 72's in Winnipeg April 2021. Drove the 4x4 9 hours to Thunder Bay...Trailered the 2WD. Barely made it. Love that front cross member F25???
Can anyone enlighten me as to why my truck has a f250 4WD frame with a VIN stamp that says 2WD? Ownership indicates F26 but all the other characters are exact. Truck is a bit of a mash up for sure with a 71 F100 body but this frame rail serial number has me stumped. The front axle is a low pinion 44 open knuckle disk brake off 77.5 from what I can make out from its build stamping. Happy to have that for sure. 390 block stamped 68 as is 4 sp transmission.
77.5 Stripped ready for paint Dana 60 Made progress picking away at it over the summer. New front rail used 1/4" plate, new rear springs, bushings etc days at the wire wheel/sandblaster...labor of love for sure
On way to a full stock refresh right down to the armstrong steering I have a feeling the chassis was the easy part judging from the floors, rockers inner and outer cab corners, etc...gonna be way outside my comfort zone but thats how you learn right? The parts truck is a complete truck in about the same shape so going to keep that as a future project with my boy. Parked the 2wd in his barn in the meantime. Otherwise Im a fair weather wrench guy doing this highboy outside where she sits

Couple more pics; sorry for all the posts just wanted to get you guys up to date. Things will most likely stagnate for a while I don't plan on doing bodywork in the snow.
Thanks guys appreciate the feedback; yeah lotta parts all at once but I can't stand having to do them later individually when it comes time to reassemble plus I have to take advantage of the good weather when it happens. This way i know whats usable and handling them soon after disassembly helps remind me what they are and where they go cuz i forget quite a bit. Really enjoying having a project like this to work on. Can't afford a nice shop plus a project at the moment.

Same here... I try and do "lots" instead of individual parts, much easier. The weather this year has been a bear here in MI, humidity has wrecked more than a few paint jobs of mine lately!

Up North of Superior( I'm about 3 hours east of Duluth MN), the weather has been pretty nice this summer we got lucky with the exception of pollen and bugs; going to have to figure out some kind of indoor paint plan next summer for the cab and box if I get that far, but I'm at least 2 years away from a decent shop which is fine the beer tastes better outside anyways.
Really great work on the frame. I can tell you 100% that you have an F250 4x4 chassis.
Thank you its amazing what a couple weeks, 300lbs of sand, a flappy disk and a wire wheel will do to what my neighbors call a junk pile. Took took it apart as much as possible without grinding every factory rivet, and shot with 3 coats of the rustoleum semi-gloss cut 4:1 with acetone. Treated the seams with the rust fix before painting. Most of the heavy pitting is inside frame rails at the back but at least its down to bare metal and turned out looking pretty good.
Have you ever heard of a frame being mis stamped with the wrong character? That kinda threw me off when I saw the F25 instead of F26 but its right there...F25 in both locations on that frame. I was wondering if perhaps that chassis is pre 67? Don't know enough about the variants to make a guess. All I can say is for a franken truck its pretty complete and I couldnt be happier knowing is a solid example of a bump highboy
