Since we bought our 2010 Mountaineer over two years ago, front differential has always been noisy. Got it at 148,000 now has almost 192,000. I know the left seal has a slow seep (fluid is still good), but the bearing noise is quite noticeably louder lately. Gets real bad at long turns and when the steering wheel is turned to the right (due to road crown).
What would the cost be to have the bearings replaced? I have full access to AllData at work, however I can't locate the book time for having these bearings replaced. Wheel bearing I can find, but differential bearings, no such luck. Other than the differential noise, vehicle has been quite solid even with the 4.0 V6.
So it wasn't front differential bearings. Turns out the left front wheel bearing had failed in such a way where the noise wouldn't change turning left and right. It wasn't until the other day when it failed like the normal way and I replaced it, vehicle was actually dead silent. So that bearing has been worn out since I got the vehicle.
