I just obtained this mirror and want to see if anyone can identify what year and model of Ford truck it was used on. Don't have a part number, but it appears to be original
Ford, as it has "FoMoCo" stamped on the mirro head. Mirror is approx 5" square. Any info would be appreciated. I at least think this is the generation of trucks it belongs too.
The 1960 accessories booklet for Ford trucks shows a similar looking mirror called a "9-inch Arm Mirror", which is non-telescoping. The arm is 9 inches and the mirror body is 6 inch square. The basic part no. is 18402. Says its for 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton. Your arm looks at least twice the length.
IIRC, that mounting method (slides into the rectangular hole in the door then fastens with 2 hidden bolts) was only used from '57-'66 so it must fit something from that era. Based on the length of the arm, I'm inclined to believe it was intended for an F-350 or larger with dual wheels and a bed that was wider than the cab.
I think Doug O has it correct, there was probably a longer version for the larger trucks.
