Since I have such high regard for the knowledge base on this site, because I've learned a lot about Fords in general & my truck in particular, I figured I would pick your brains about a different topic.
I have a Weil McLain boiler with a Riello burner (oil heat). A few weeks ago I had the unit cleaned, & the tech said the firebox should be replaced. He also said it would improve the performance of the unit as well.
Now I've looked into the firebox thru that peep hole thing, & it looks like the back wall has some smallish cracks in it - they may just be surface cracks, & they've been there for a few years now & no one has said anything before. The unit is about 16 years old or so.
Does anyone know what I should be looking for - how do I tell if his recommendation is legit, and will a replacement save me oil?
I second Torque1st's seond oppinion comment. I would think that if the firebox is cracked that you would want to replace it, I would also think that it would point to another problem possibly with the way the fuel oil is being burned.
