I have a '75 F150. I am trying to get all the lights working. So far everything works except the turn signals. The hazard flashers work fine. I have installed a new turn signal flasher. I am getting power to the flasher. And I am getting power from the flasher to the turn signal switch. But no power is leaving the turn signal switch going to the lamps. Checked everything with a test light. Neither direction (left or right) works. The indicators on the dash do not light up and no signals light up. But all lights and indicators work when I pull the hazard switch. Is something stuck inside the turn signal switch? The previous owner said they "worked when he parked it" seven years ago. I haven't pulled the steering wheel yet. Wanted to get some opinions before I buy a new switch.
Thanks.
If all fuses, etc are in good shape, I would not be surprised if the contacts in a 27 year old switch are toast.
I had similar problems with the switch in my truck and decided to just replace it since I had the steering wheel off anyway. Figured it should be good for a few years without having to get back into it again.
Thanks! Next week i'm going to pull the steering wheel and check the switch contacts. I doubt that my rear light sockets are bad because stop and tail lamps work. But i'll give those a look too.
it's prolly the contacts that need cleaning. pull the wheel and use 000 grit sandpaper lightly over the copper contacts. like the other guy said, DON'T buy the aftermarket plastic. i did it, and ended up using the new part, but i had to cut the arm off the old one and super glued it to the new one. it works well now, but it took me awhile to get it right. i dopn't want you to go through all that, that's why we are here online!
