Sounds about right unfortunately. The 2020+ trucks seem to use DEF significantly faster than previous year 6.7's. My 11, 14, and 17 trucks never gave me DEF anxiety like this 20 does. Got in the habit of keeping 5 gallons with me in the 5th wheel just in case.

Sounds normal to me. I had a trip to Yellowstone with my 5th wheel. Similar mileage. Started the trip with full tank of DEF. Refilled it with a 2.5 gal BlueDEF. Ended the trip with a quarter left in the tank.

Yep. I tow a 5th wheel and occasionally our truck camper. The 5th wheel tow is about 2000 miles/7 gal of Def.
Truck camper is not as bad, about 3000 miles/7gal def.

My 2020 usage is about 2.4%, so if I burn 100 gallons of fuel it uses 2.4 gallons of DEF. So if I am towing the fuel burn goes up and the DEF usage goes up.

my 2012 if I remember was about 1.5%, so my 2020 is definitely using more, my understanding is the new ones use more DEF and use less EGR, definitely a good trade off in my book.

my understanding is that the big over the road trucks use about 3% DEF, so the 2.4% certainly seems reasonable.

Looks like you live near mountains so the high grades will use a lot of fluid too.

I just finished a trip and used 6.27 gallons of DEF in 2,456.6 miles for 391.8 miles per gallon of DEF. 59% of that was towing my 33' toy hauler. That works out to 2.5% which matches pretty well with Rich53's experience above.

I’ve noticed my 2020 is a pig when it comes to def consumption. 7k miles on truck, 2400 of them miles are towing. I’m at 12.5 gal of def useage!

Is it possible that using more DEF will mean a longer life for the particulate filter?

From the diagrams I find online, the DPF is after the DEF dosing valve (on the pickup trucks only, the chassis cabs are different for some reason).
Due to this design, it doesn't look like DEF consumption will effect the DPF either way.
The SCR system however will be effected. Longer or shorter lifespan, its hard to say. Time will tell.

Depends...

The lower the fuel economy the more DEF the truck will use.

So far, my truck seems to be doing very well on DEF.

No, the DPF and the SCR system are 2 different systems.
