One of the dependable suppliers for our trucks is Mid Fifty. Here is what they have to say on the "long bed" trucks:
Ford stopped making flareside beds after the 1972 model year. Then they started making them in, I think, in 1976. I think these flareside beds had the F250 size tailgate.
Trivia note: these beds from 1976 to whenever did not have the flare that the 1953-72 beds had. The top of the bed was squared off at a 90° angle.

I bought a F250 tailgate by accident at a swap meet a couple of years back. So they're out there used.
