Looking for some opinions on what cross bed tool box is the best…i have narrowed it down to cam locker and weather guard but want to hear your thoughts…i like that the cam locker has the easy close lof meaning you don’t have to slam it to shut it but what you guys think
I too am looking. The thing about weather guard is the defender series supposedly is not good quality. It’s their budget line. Camlocker seems good. Supposedly people also recommend HUSKY from Home Depot. I’m gonna check them out in person.
I bought a low profile Husky form Home depot in 2010 and still using it. Some of the power coat has chipped off but has been trouble free and looks good on my 2015.
Of those choices, I'd go with a Weather Guard (121-52-01), as I'm not familiar with Camlocker. As said above, don't get the cheaper grade Defender series. At that point, it's better to just get a DeeZee or a Tractor Supply house brand generic box. There are times when I really wished I had a box and, if I got one, I'd get the Weather Guard. At ~$800, it's pretty expensive and that's part of the reason one isn't on my truck. The low profile does stick up higher than comparable low profiles from DeeZee and cheaper brands ... about 4.5" over the rails as opposed to closer to 2" in other brands. Not sure how this would affect visibility out the back window, but that is always a tradeoff with bed-mounted boxes. I saw a 2017+ SD in the wild 2 years ago with the Weather Guard low profile box on it. It looked really, really good.
ProTech is the other brand I always mention. Known more in the west for semis and other commercial grade boxes and accessories, they do make light truck boxes and such. I had one on a truck a couple of decades ago and it was the most solid box I have ever seen. You could do jumping jacks on the lid. You could probably toss it in the ocean and not get a drop of water inside. You would also have to use a cutting torch to break into it. You'll be into it $1,500 for a ProTech, though.
EDIT: It looks like there is a newer version of the Weather Guard box that looks pretty interesting. I've never seen one, but here is a link to the new 121-52-03.

There is only one brand of tool box in my opinion, and its Weatherguard. The original, not the defender series. I haven't come across any other brand that looks as good or holds up as long. It is also the only brand I know of that puts clear coat on the diamond plate to keep it from fading.
I have a low profile Better Built that I picked up at called at a place called Big R, now North 40 and probably the same as Tractor Supply and other local farm stores. I picked it up on sale so it wasn't too bad. It has worked great, no water intrusion and has kept its gloss for several years now. I am not sure if I will switch it to the new truck or just get a newer polished one vs the black I have now.
You literally quoted me linking to and discussing that very tool box and then introduce the same tool box as if it were a different option? I'm very confused.
I used to buy Weatherguards, but honestly they were overkill for my needs. My Craftsman, low profile unit I purchased at Lowes has served me well through two f150s and my new f250. Black is faded some.
Nobody likes Rawson Koenig boxes.....
Ive had several over the years of diff trucks. They are about the same price range as weather guard. Never had any issues with them. Had 300 lb guy stand on it to glass deer and no bending or warping. https://www.rki-us.com/products.aspx...pe=2&series=24

LOL. Oops. I didn’t even click your first link. I saw the last one you posted and looked that and then found the same one I guess you had linked first LOL. My bad.
Be aware that with our aluminum bodied trucks when you use a crossover box that’s gonna carry considerable weight you should reinforce the bed rails under the box…….just saying
