repowering with 390

I am the owner of 87 f150 automatic with a tired 351 engine and am entertaining the idea of repowering with a 390 engine from a 76 model. Can anyone help me out here relative to whether or not the 390 will bolt right in without the need for motor mount and/or tranny modifications. The tranny is the original C6.
Thx in advance for any/all responses.

You will need to find a different tranny because the bell housing on the old FE is different than the windsor, Its very doable but will take R&D

Thx for your very informative post. I suspected that that 390 might not match right up to the 87's oem tranny thru some other dialogue i had with a mechanic a while back. Do you think a 460 would bolt right up to the existing 87's oem tranny?

you already have the biggest engine that will bolt up to your transmission. The only way to go bigger using that bell housing is to drop a $700 stroker crank from SCAT in there and use 302 pistons with your existing connecting rods. The crank yeild 387 cubic inches without over bore, with 0.030" overbore you get 393 cid. You would also be able to utilize all your fuel injection pieces.
