Have an 02 7.3, that has been nothing but trouble this summer. After several other unrelated issues, I had to install a used idm in june, then decided at 150k to throw some money at it and upgrade. So new Full force 180/30 injectors, up pipes and new turbo. I had posted a few weeks ago about trouble idling after the upgrades which was a result of a bad dorman uvch, at the time I replaced the passenger side with the factory I removed and it ran great. 100 miles later I was getting towed home with the 1316 code. felt the driver side bank was shut down when i managed to limp it in the garage so i assumed it was the driver side dorman went bad. Yesterday I replaced both uvch with new alliant ones as well as the plug that goes into the passenger side uvch because i broke the clip on the old one. I go to fire it up and while it started, it still sounded like hell and the driver side bank shut down again.
Now since the last time i was here, I had gotten a bluetooth adapter and have forscan. so I buzzed the injectors and got P0276 #6 circuit low. then i did a cylinder contribution, which not sure if it makes a difference that the engine wasn't hot, but from that I got P0266, P0272, and P0284. contribution balance for 2,4,8. Really hoping this is just because of #6 having the circuit issue, or because they are oversized.
So far the wiring seems to be alright, from what i've found, I'm still looking it over though. I have a hard time believing I have yet another bad uvch. Thinking maybe idm is bad again? the one I put on in june was out of a truck someone was parting out. This truck is driving me nuts, thankfully its not my daily but I need to get it figured out.
Have you tested you wiring harness from injector connector to 42 pin plug? Or from 42 pin plug to IDM/PCM? Did you wire the connector correctly?
And a visual wiring check ain't going active squat, you have to check resistance on the wires to verify there isn't an open circuit or a bad wire in the harness.
I'm in the process of checking with the ohm meter.. I'm testing between then uvch plug to the female of the 42 pin. I'm thinking it's going to be wiring. As I have found some wires that don't look real healthy. Looks worse in person and closer up.
I ohmed out the wiring, first from the plug of the uvch to the female 42 and all had 0 resistance. then i plugged it in again and used the 42 and all ohmed out to 3.4 which from reading is about where it should be. so it appears the wiring is alright. so looking more like the idm right?
Took me a few days to get back over to the truck with work.. But i did the idm harness and every ohmed out good. Including #6 that shows the fault. I have a new idm ordered.. Just gotta wait for it to come in.
