My Grandpa killed 2 huge oak stumps by drilling a bunch of half-inch holes in the top. This lets rainwater get inside alot easier, and it makes the entire stump rot at an equal rate. Nothing will happen quick tho, it will take a few years.

Dynamite. . . or a shovel - you decide

. . seriously. You can spend a metric ton of money on chemicals that may or may not work. Both tools mentioned above are pretty much a sure thing to fix the problem on the first application.

I have seen this stuff i think is called Stump Rid used before. Its used the same way by drilling several holes in the stump and pouring this solution in them, It killes the stump from the inside out.

As for removal! Well i'm not sure i would use dynamite but if the stump is not a eyesore let nature take its course and rot it out in time.

I still like the dynamite idea. . . . I'll just bet Tim Taylor would approve too.

Think of it this way; you may even be able to sell tickets to witness the event that will help offset the fines and other legal expenses!!

hmmm, thats a good idea Fuzz, but I think one of the neighbors would probaly swear at me for the fireworks., When I was in my early 20's, me and my buddies got hold of some primacord? and blew the doors off some old junk cars with it, too cool. I went to work the day after I graduated high school for a plumbing / elec contractor. Since I was a graduate of the industrial elec. course in voc. school, my boss seen it fit to let me do the" wiring" for a dam we were doing the dam overflow plumbing work on. He had me running these neat little 20 ga. red and blue wires all around where they had hit bedrock and sticking these wires on these little "caps" he called them. He then had me to put these "caps" in the end of these long bologna gut lookin' things and sticking them in to holes they had drilled down in these big rocks. After I had wired all these bologna's he told me to go out and pick up lunch for everyone. I was born and raised WAY back up in the woods, didnt get out much, and didnt know what he had me doing until I came back and seen all the rocks laying in heaps. He had told me I was wiring up electronic depth sensors to see how deep the rock went, the guy had a sense of humor for the greenhorns , no doubt

cant get a stump grinder to it? my vermeer stump grinder sits on a 5' X8 ' trailer, and if i take the outer wheels off of it, i can fit through a 36" gate. its self driven, i can do a $300 stump in under and hour...

as far as if you honestly cant get a stump grinder to it, it must not be that important!

ive ground out stumps that people cut the tree down 20 years ago... you could pull them apart with a shovel, but if they want to pay me to grind it, ill take their $$$.... then ive also seen those stumps that people drilled holes in, and poured in the chemicals.... takes more than just a few years but if youd rather mow around it for 5 years instead of spending =$35 bucks to have someone grind it, then suit yourself!

did a stump service come out for an estimate and tell you they couldnt do it, or what?

whoa, there built tough, lemme splain. They are two 6 in. diameter trees located against a power pole at my property line. That is the only reason I am taking them down, they are getting in to the utility lines above. The pole and trees are hard against a city fence , right in the point where the dividing property line and the city fence meet on a corner post, at the corner of the 90 degree angle. I cant get a stumper cutter wheel in to them without grinding out two fences, not good,

I've made some diesel fuel/fertilizer bombs in coffee cans and blown out stumps, but I would'nt recommend it if you have'nt done it before... the first one I tried blew a crater in the ground about 7 feet across and nearly 3 feet deep.

Got rid of the stump, but the splinters were a pain in the...well, you get the idea.

I have drilled holes in the stump and put salt in the holes to keep the things from sprouting again. This will not rot or remove the stump any faster though.

Oh. Well that changes things.

You need C-4 or Symtex.

It is easier to control the direction of the blast!

i hope you didnt think i was calling you cheap or lazy, i was refferring to past customers of mine
