Help with 460 rebuild
Help with 460 rebuild
I have a 1979 F150 4x4 with a 460ci engine and I'm looking to rebuild the engine due to rod knock. The thing is I have no clue where to start, all I know is that this truck is more used as a work truck and doesn't need to go over 100mph. I'm looking for an suggestions on parts, building process, and install. I would like it so have some decent power in higher gears (I think my tranny only has 3 gears and then 2H 4H 4L) but I would like the majority to be in the lower end for more towing/ work capability. Would like to stay with a carbureted 460 as I can reuse many parts. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. -CJ

I haven't built and engine before nor have I ever taken one out or put one in. My mechanic is willing to help me with in install and removal. He also has an engine stand that I'm able to use. I have some basic tools but I would assume that I don't have all the necessary tools for the build. Thanks for your reply
