Long time FTE guy. new to this forum... and might stay if the the PRICE IS RIGHT
Looking at a 53 F350 Dumpbox, for the most part not horrible shape but as projects go it will be one.
At the moment it has a 351w w/4 speed, they have a Y block and 4 speed (don't have the numbers) but they thought it was from this truck. I don't think so from what i hear from the forum and the "Ford Truck Chronicle" book i have. has rust under the gas cap near the bottom and the passenger floor ( no hole just rough)
Both RAMS are under the 9' foot bed but disconnected.. i think because the PTO mechanism that drives the motor is gone bc of the swap ?? is this how the dumpbox worked. Also no obvious oil resovoir.
It only has SRW.. i expected duallies but i think somebody took off the out wheels along the way.
What are projects like this going for - i know sight unseen it is tough but a good guessitmate, or experience on what most are paying for projects would help.
Dennis, welcome to the 48-56 forum. Post pictures when you can . If it only has a rust hole on the driver's side rear can corner and a rough spot, no hole, on the passenger side floor board your ahead of where most of us were.
Yes. The 53 trucks would have had a flathead. The tranny would have driven the hoist with the PTO. I'm sure there are other ways to lift the bed, however. There are some F350s with SRW. Some had Express pickup beds. I've seen pictures of flatbeds with SRWs. So it could have been converted.
He is down to 3500 at this point.. and I know that is still decent. i was going to offer him 2500, and i am waiting for him to get the VIN, i couldn't find it and he is trying to find the title/papperwork which he does have. i learned on here where the vins are so i told him to lookin the glove compartment and the frame by the radiator. Killing just a bit of time.
trying to upload a quick video but wife needs my pc right now!!!
not sure if this helps you or not but this 56 F500 is on craigslist (Ma) all restored....... asking $17 grand.
That looks really sharp. Here's the before version still in the weeds, local to the OP, for a tenth of the money. Don't think you can get there from here for the difference, though. . https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/...377232288.html
