I went and grabbed a 3g alt from the pic pull,, I read some of the post about the upgrade,, But i have to ask. Why not just switch to a single wire GM alternator. I run a single on my 63 nova and a simple 3 wire on my 67 camaro and CJ7

The tabs look similar and they already have a v groove pulley. What am i missing? I found a few post and it looks easy enough

Update,

I used a GM 3 wire alternator, smaller, cheaper, pulley already on it, easy to wire and it lines up perfect. The only modification is drilling the alternator to accommodate the larger bolt used on the fords.

Here are a few pictures

Actually I've never much of a problem after Ford went to electronic external regulators. I don't run much for amps, just stock equipment. Kind of miss that metallic klink when you turn the key though.
Ford 2 G, now that was a problem and didn't last long. GM S or Ford 3G both are pretty good.
