Barely limped home again. Weak, erratic to none spark at points.
PerTronics Here I Come. Kids working at my local Napa never heard of this?!? Just found on EBay 1281 ignitor kit and flame thrower coil for $116. Sounds swell to me. So just to verify with you guys who know.....is this the right one for me? 65 f100 stock 352.....
I want to do more driving and less walking. Whatcha think....easy conversion? correct items? I'm ready to push the buy now button. Thanks much, Sal
Yes, Sal...once you set it up (easy) your ignition should be good to go....just as long as you don't have other issues like bad wires or fuel supply....
Hi, It looks like you chose the correct piece. They are not too hard to install, I have one on my '62 292 and after install it had a miss on ( I think) #4 cyl. I called their hotline and they told me to install a oring under the spinney part to raise it up some. That took care of the miss (until I ran my fingers across my keyboard). I feel that it's a good part and I hope it cures your problem.
You might consider the Ignitor II model (91281) vs. the Ignitor model (1281) - it boasts more advanced bells and whistles. I installed the Ignitor II on my 385 engine and have been very happy with it. Loved getting away from points and eliminating that added tuning variable. I also bought the matched coil, (oil filled, vertical mount version) which seemed prudent, and I'm happy with that as well. Easy installation, as noted. Make sure you get full voltage to the new coil - remove the resistor wire if you have that, and remove any ballast resistor if you have that. (This is all in the instructions)
Per Resonateur's suggestion - I got a very noticeable boost from my ignition when replaced the wires, cap and rotor. I did the Pertronix first, and the wires soon after - the new wires contributed the largest noticeable change.
Some guys won’t use anything but points, touting their superiority for roadside repairs, and citing failures of early Pertronix models. I have used them now for over 25 years without a hitch, but , just like a spare set of points, you can keep an extra Pertronix module in the glovebox for long trips and peace of mind.
Koolkat: Thanks, always good to hear about a company's support.
Christmas: Yup, I remembered your recommendation a month ago when I had the first- side of road. Golden sounds perfect
66f250: Thanks, Yes the pink resistor wire is in the feed now. Running a new one shouldn't be tough, it's all been organized and I know what I'm doing this time. I'm not really looking for more power, want more reliable..and this sounds like it might be just the thing.
KO1960: .044 x 2????? Yowza I'd be afraid I'd blast an ole gasket.
I have been happily running pertronix in my 292 for almost 15 years with excellent results! Cold starts are no different now (it used to be harder to start on damp cold mornings with thr points) and it fires right off every time. This has been the best bang for the buck and just beats out the fairlane 2bbl conversion. I will NEVER go back!
