2004 ford f150 fx4 ,so I lost my truck key ,I have only owed one key since I got the truck ,I love my truck ,a friend drilled out my ignition,I purchased a new ignition and keys from the auto parts house ,first of all the tumbler doesn't fit and I don't think there r any chips in the keys ,can somebody please help I need my truck I live way up a mountain it's important to have wheels, can I just take the pats security out all together or bypass it so I can start it
Of course it's equipped with PATS. All F150s got the system starting in 1999 model year.
You have three choices to get it running again:
1. Pull the PCM and ship it off to someone who can reprogram it to delete the PATS function. You'd still need to get a proper cylinder/key set that works mechanically.
2. Buy a tuner with "PATS delete" option added. Ditto on the cylinder/keys.
3. Get the PROPER cylinder with new PATS keys and re-program PATS correctly. Buy one or two spare PATS keys, have them cut, and program them as spares so you don't get stuck in this same situation again.
#3 can be done DIY with Forscan, you can hire a mobile locksmith/mechanic, if any are around, who can come to your remote location, or you can have it towed to a dealer or shop who can do the work.
Your best bet is to get a pro to repair key cyl and make you 4 pat keys .The pcm is not going to let you bypass pats system . Even if you ship it off for a delete you still are going to have to repair key cyl . Its not just a way to get it to crank, that's easy , its firing the injectors /cops etc with timing pulses .
To make you feel better I had 6 pats keys ,I'm now down to two keys .
Be prepared to prove ownership of vehicle, no one should fix it unless they check it out . If it comes up stolen there's going to be trouble . By law they are required to report it .
