6.7L Low Fuel Pressure

Help FTE!

Ive got a 2015 6.7L thats is experiencing some fuel pressure issues after installing the SPE Disaster Prevention Kit. I suspect it is coming from air in the fuel line, but Im no expert on these trucks. With that said, I need to know the best way to bleed the air out manually, because the whole cycle the key 6 times isnt doing the trick. Truck fires right up but goes straight to REP mode

There are many reports of low fuel pressure with the spe DPK.

it’s not an air issue.

you should place a trouble call with SPE, hopefully they will step up.

Don't have the SPE DPK, but when I change my fuel filters, I do at least 12 KO engine off cycles to prime the system. But it still takes a few seconds or so for her to start. Then she's good to go.

Hm, you would think they couldnt push this kit if it had an engineering flaw like this. Seems more likely there are some air bubbles trapped somewhere. I checked the MPROP, the fuel pressure sensor, and the fuel pressure regulator and they all check out. No visible fuel leaks. CP4 bore was spotless no chrome or dirt to speak of. and the kit doesnt choke down flow it mainly routes lubricant diesel to the top of the CP4 and put the little exofilter on the return line. Not sure why It’d be causing low rail pressure

Fritz,

I just saw another thread we were both a part of pertaining to the SPE kit. You might say my ignorance is showing, I will call SPE tomorrow and see what they have to say for themselves :/

Do you know what your lift pump psi is at idle?

You can set up monitors in forscan.

the kit creates 2 parallel paths

apparently, the roller bearing path is letting too much fuel thru and back to the tank vs the injector path.

the oem setup was 1 serial path.

my guess is that either the holes to the injector path at the cp4 block off plate is too small, or the holes at the dividing manifold has holes too large for the roller bearing path.

some type of retro fit , like the below flow restrictor, may be needed in the roller bearing path.

I have both the SPE kit and the fen2 s&s kit. I initially bought the SPE kit, but once I heard about the low fuel pressure problems, I put the spe kit on the shelf and orders and install the s&s kit.

it’s very difficult to communicate with SPE . Good luck with that.

Since the low pressure sensor is actually on the stock path , the rail that the fuel line from the filter originally connected to….the retro fit will probally be needed I going into the exofilter.

s&s doesn’t have this problem and my guess is becuase the 2 micron return filter has sufficient back pressure to allow the low pressure fuel sensor in working properly.

Do you know anybody who has tried that successfully...or at all for that matter? Im down to try anything right now if I can get one from a hardware/autoparts store

on the flow restrictor in front of the exofilter , No one yet had reported trying it .

but, re: a 2 micron return filter ….

do you have forscan so you can monitor your lift pump psi.

I don’t think you will find the flow restrictor fitting locally…it’s a fitting used in turbo feed or turbo return lines to control the amount of oil being sent to the turbos. The fitting reduces the flow .

No I dont have ‘forscan’ maybe I ought to look into it. Is it an app or something?
