1965 Fuel Door on the side of the bed
Has anybody on this forum moved the gas tank to the rear of the tuck bed and fabricated a fuel door on the side of the bed? I see where most put the tank lid in the bed of the truck and replace the metal floor with wood.
I'm in the process of frame off restoration of my 65 f100 short bed styleside and I want to go back with a new metal bed floor but I want to move the gas tank from the cab and place it in the rear of the truck between the frame. I'm looking for locations to put the fuel door. Any suggestions and pictures would be appreciated.

I saw where one guy put the filler behind the tail light, a la 48 Cadillac. Someone might have the link, or you could search it. The bed I put on my truck has a hole in the side of the bed, and the floor, right behind the doors but the tanks were gone when I grabbed the bed so I'm not sure where it was mounted but I assume longways like a newer F150.

Just about every variation in fuel filler placement can be found here on the forum. Do an advanced search and you'll find it. Some members can find this stuff easily and will post the links....it takes me some time. As Dan mentioned, the one behind the tail-light is on here as well as placement on the bed rail and outside of the bed. I think the tricky thing is routing the filler tube to the tank. I saw one where the filler tube took space in the bed on the inside of the bed wall. Didn't care for that....but certainly less complicated. Anyway, good luck, you should be able to find what you're looking for here, if its been done.

I've seen several variations. I don't like the fill tube in the bed. But there is a SUPER CLEAN 66 that is parked at the same restaurant that wifey and I have our Sunday breakfast. It has the fill tube on the rear diagonal surface of the wheel well. Out of the way, and for the most part, would not interfere with actually using the bed to haul stuff.
Then on the TV show "FantomWorks" they did a C10 "Shiverlay" on which they put the filler tube inside the right rear bed pocket, and used a pop-up cap like you see on some motorcycles, specifically Harley's. It sits flush, so you push the center cap down with two fingers, rotate 90° and it pops up. I may do mine this way.
I had a C10 "Shivy" quite a few years back that had the fuel door on the bed side. It wasn't easily compatible with today's vapor return nozzles used in here in California. The angle was such that fuel kept backing up and clicking the nozzle off. Based on that experience, I wouldn't recommend that unless you could make it in such a way as to have a good downward angle on the fill pipe.

I've ran into another example on FTE as well - It takes some searching and scrolling

I have never liked those, Too low for your application I think, plus they seemed leaky on acceleration.
