Hey guys how is it going. Well I just bought a 1995 Ford(of course)F-150 4x4. 5.0 EFI, 5 speed manual trans. The truck is stock as they come. The truck has 56,000 miles on it. The problem is GAS BILL. I love the truck and have no plans of selling her. I would just like to improve her gas mileage a little better. So! Could you guys give me some aftermarket mods or things I could do to my truck to help out it out. I sure would appreciate it. Thanks a bunch guys.
Start out with a K&N filter and maybe a set of underdrive pulleys. Then you may want to consider a good "cat back" exhaust with a free flowing muffler. Headers are also an option, but are a bit more trouble. A synthetic oil change will add several benfits. I have a 94 F150 with a 5.0 and automatic transmission. I get an honest 18 mpg on the highway and about 15 mpg with the a/c on around town...and the truck will still scoot pretty good. All this after 128,000 miles.
Bert
Bert thanks for the info. This is what all you have done to yours? I would love to get about 18mpg with mine. I know it sucks right now. I am going to work on it as soon as I can. Again thanks for the info....
You might also consider changing or updating your driving styles. Try to keep at a even rpm. Meaning try avoiding stop and go driving, don't use the ac (reduces like 2-3mpg) don't accerate to hard. Also don't brake hard.
Another thing you might consider is a tonneau cover or a topper. These have been known to give 1mpg themselves. I have a 1993 as seen below, and I have gotten 22mpg and I avg 20.
Pastmaster's 1993 XLT 5.0 E40d 3.55LS Normal Cab/Long bed Loaded from the factory with aid of...MSd 6a ign/s.p. wires, blaster coil, Hypertech Chip, K&N filtercharger, Cat-back dual exhuast w/o mufflers, 3.5", echo tips, Accel distributor cap, Dark Mocha over light mocha. 5% Dark tint, Alpine Cd player/remote, Pioneer speakers.
Katt,
How many miles do you drive a year?
And what is your avg mileage over, say a month's period?
Then do the math. How much will all the improvements cost and what is the return, in terms of gas mileage gained over the expectied life of your truck?
I have a 96 Bronco 5.0 with e40d and drive mostly on a freeway to work (about 47 Miles each way); the best that I can do is 17 mpg. The
f 150/Bronco is a brick wall in terms or aerodynamics.
