I was out washing my truck today and noticed on the driver and left passenger door, right under the window, the clear coat appears to be chipping off.
Does anyone know if this is something covered by warranty?
The warranty says it doesn't cover the deterioration of paint that result from use and/or exposure to the elements (stone chips, scratches, dings, dents...) but it's imposible for the areas to get hit by stones. And for two doors to have it in the same place seems like a defect to me.
I was my truck every 4-7 days and just noticed this today
My family owned an '88 Corsica and in '89 the paint started to chip, they repainted it. That's not to say they have the same warranty, just I would assume it's a covered defect.
I own a new 2003 with only 4,000 miles on it at the moment...If the paints starts chipping this early, they'll have to give me a new 2004... don't accept a new paint job... repaints never last as long as quality factory paint...
If the clear coat looks like it's peeling off or flaking off like dried up window film, then I think you might be able to claim it as a warranty item.
What kind of soap are you using to wash your vehicle? Hopefully it's not dishwashing soap. That's stuff is a light abrasive and will tear up the clear coat over time. Diluting it is okay if all you want to do is strip away the previous wax coat.
If it's dishwashing soap that you are using and you're washing it as often as you say, that may be the culprit, but I don't think that's likely because you would see peeling and flaking all over the place.
I'd bring it up as a warranty issue as I would argue that peeling and flaking of the clearcoat is not reasonable deterioration for a vehicle (depending on how old the vehicle is).
