I'm looking at the brackets to purchase. Does anyone know if the dimensions are correct? I wish that it had the length too but to me they look correct. I'm going to use the Ford Crest shaped tail lamps.
I'll admit I was in a bit of a rush as it had to do with purchasing the brackets being that they were cheap price, the last pair and also imported. Lately I've had issues getting import parts whether it be at work for the old Mustangs and also getting import parts for my truck project. It's too bad that these parts can't be made at least on our continent. I get nervous when I hear that China wants to take over Taiwan. What will that do to the good parts that we Can get from Taiwan? Soon I hope to be able to get my pair of new doors and pair of new fenders. Hopefully there will not be a supply issue. Yes Covid-19 has caused a supply chain problem. I just hope that we don't have a supply issue because of world politics.
Bob, Good idea! 3 weeks ago I thought of something similar for my steering column and automatic shift cable. I thought if I could get a connecting rod out of a large lawnmower engine or motorcycle engine I could use it as part of my "kit" to hold the trans cable stable. I need a c rod with a 1.5 crank end and a couple of old bearings in case 1.5" is a hair too big. Any of you guys that work on mowers or motorcycles know of connecting rod this size?
Added/editied-I did purchase the tail light brackets for painted ones under $20- for the pair. it would have taken me 2 or 3 hours to make them...

Why spend $20 when you can spend 3 hours making it?
The PO told me they came from a scooter motor, I don’t care, they look great.
A while back a fellow FTE member was nice enough to trace his tail light bracket for me and email it to me. I printed it, traced it out on some flat steel and cut it out. American Made.
I know those are the correct brackets but personally I hate them. They put the license plate behind the bumper and in a difficult place to see if your using OE bracket and especially if you go off the tailgate hinge bolts.
@Bob Ingram My Auto Restoration Shop charges $70- an hour for bodywork and fabrication so I would have to give some of the money to the Co-owner if I made my own and charged myself. LOL @Scotty's 52 F3 I will be glad to trace and mail the pattern to anyone here especially 1953-56 owners that may need a pattern before I use them. I'll be able to do this for several months. @Kurt G.That is true but if I make the top hinge bracket hole the bottom light bracket hole if it won't make it look funny on the rear. Otherwise and it may not be the best idea but I considered when I narrow the rear bumper and build the receiver hitch in to the bumper instead of under the bumper the the license plate bracket and receiver hitch "plug" would be one in the same. That way when one is not towing you don't see a class II or III (probably a class II I would only be pulling a tow dolly or a Little Guy T@B) you wouldn't see the hitch. It would all be built behind the bumper. OFF TOPIC-does anyone know what is wrong with the signature option? for over two months I have attempted to edit my sig and am unable to. I'm going to let it show today however I have found a lot of parts in my signature. Maybe @Fomoko1 will see this...
@Fomoko1
Yes from user CP. Every time it will say this after I edit and submit changes

1) Your signature contains too many lines and must be shortened. You may only have up to 6 line(s). Long text may have been implicitly wrapped, causing it to be counted as multiple lines.

I've run into that when trying to add longer quotes to my sig line.
I recommend shortening yours to the bare minimum, save it, then start adding back, in order of importance, until it is rejected.
