2022 F-350 7.3L - 800 Mile Road Trip

I received my special order 2022 F-350 XL/STX 7.3L 3.73 on Thursday and took an 800 mile road trip over the weekend to break it in a little before I hook it up to our travel trailer next weekend. This truck is almost identical to my 2020 F-250 I bought in Feb '20 and sold a couple of months ago. I really liked my 2020 but wanted more payload and a few more options. Although I had no complaints with the 2020, the 2022 just seems to be more refined. The 10sp transmission was silky smooth from the beginning and did not seem to need to "learn" my driving habits. Maybe it is just the luck of the draw but hopefully Ford has made a few tweaks to the engine and tranny for everyone's benefit. I hand calculated 14mpg with 75% highway but I did vary the rpms a lot by locking out upper gears periodically. Very satisfied with this truck and look forward to pulling the TT next weekend.

I'll be doing he same if my truck shows up this week. Going to do my trip in day to knock out most of those 1k break in miles...
Your truck looks great!

Nice truck. I’m hoping to get mine late September/early October if nothing changes! If so we will take a weekend trip to my dads which will get us 1k easy… then hopefully 1 or 2 camping trips before the end of the year!!

Thanks for the information. I have a 2022 F350 with the 7.3 and 3.73 on the way. I am going to miss the 18 mpg I get in my 2003 F250 7.3 diesel. but looking forward to an updated truck.

Good looking truck! I like your style I also did a 1000 mile break in, changed the engine oil, then put her on towing duty. Philip.

I did the same break in on mine - Changed the oil and headed to Nashville with my 9K camper in tow! 2,000 round trip and an absolutely perfect tow experience!

I doubt you are going to miss much. The OP wasn't on any kind of economy run and the truck is brand new. Lots of 16 mpg reports for trucks configured like yours.

The earliest I've towed with was 32 miles and the latest about 230 miles. Both were flawless trucks.
