Have a set of 302 cleveland heads that were burnt in a house fire. Does anyone think they would be right to use after being reconditioned? I put a straight edge on heads to check for any sign of warping, and they both seem straight.
What is a 302 Cleveland?? I would take them to a machine shop and have them checked, and magged to be sure. But I would first figure out what the heads fit.
302C heads are commonly called Aussie heads. These are the closed chamber heads with smaller ports that everyone is looking for. Aussie 351C heads have open chambers.
Valve seals are burnt. Valve guides still look O.K. You are good Bill, Heads are Aussie closed chamber with 2v size ports and valves. I am going to take them to machine shop to have them checked, but just wanted some feed back. Again Bill, correct, 351 Aussie heads are openchamber 2v. I currently am running the 351 heads with 4v valves fitted. Want to change to 302 heads for better comp.
Not really my area, but besides the valve springs, there's really nothing on them that would be damaged...
Just very clean
The key is if the firemen hit them directly with a hose while hot... if they cooled off slowly, and they are not warped, I can't think of any reason not to use them, or at least get them checked by a machinist.
And if they WERE hit with water while hot, and they didn't warp, you might have a set of tempered heads - which will probably crack after a while... or not...
Anyone else expose their engine parts to a house fire?
