Question cowl to front corner rods 53f100

I made the biggest restoration mistake- I threw away parts. Even though I knew that I wasn't going to reuse them I chucked em' instead of making a pile out behind the garage. I am going to make stainless ones anyway but I could have used the old ones to get the sizes right.. Can anyone help me with the lengths of the rods that attach at the cowel at one end and to the front corner(above headlight area) thanks. For all you other new guys, don't chuck parts until your done. Call the pile sculpture. I will post the advice in do's and dont's: 53 f100

dandman,

Mine are 39 3/8 long and constructed from 3/8 rod. I may have trimmed them a bit. I don't recall for sure. I would just make them an inch too long and trim to fit at the end. The cowl end appears it was smashed flat during manufacturing process and then drilled. Point being I think they may not be too easy to construct exactly like stock. S/S rods will bend real easy so use caution when installing.

fenders, the last guy that asked about ss rods got one more bit of advise from you, I believe. Because of the ss galling problem, you suggested chrome adjusting nuts rather than ss. I thought that was a great idea. Thery look the same, but won't gall the ss as easy. Or, if it wasn't you, then I've been giving you credit for it anyway. John

Yes, I forgot about that. You are correct. Also make sure you use Never-Sieze on the threads. Or something similar and appropriate for nickel alloys.

I think it's Sacramento Vintage Ford Parts that shows stainless steel rods for both the fenders and the hood, already made up, threaded and everything, ready to go. I used them on mine. Kinda pricy, but handy, convenient, and the right length.

Good luck, and be safe.
